The first written record of the village comes from 1399.
The village is located on the Silicka Plain, which is located in the middle of the Slovenský Karst National Park. It has 130 inhabitants. In the centre of the village stands a Renaissance church from the 16th century. The church is a national cultural monument. The village is a suitable starting point for hiking tours through the vast natural area, the beauty of which has enchanted thousands of tourists. In the vicinity of the village there are various natural attractions such as chasms, sinkholes, caves: Kráľova studňa nature reserve, bell-shaped chasm (UNESCO), Milada cave (not accessible). The village organizes a “Gastroday” every year at the beginning of July.
