Observatory Hurbanovo, the most well-known observatory of Slovakia.
The observatory in Hurbanovo belongs to the oldest and most important institutions of science in Slovakia. During its existence of more than 150 years, its activities have been fruitful in the fi eld of observation and research. But there are also remarkable results in the fi led of education: more than one-and-a-quarter century of systematic observation of the sun with world-wide known results, the discovery of new planets, which were given the names of important representatives of Slovak science and culture, successful expeditions to follow the solar eclipse to the different ends of the world. Hundred thousands of enthusiastic visitors, amateur
astronomers and listeners participated in the fascinating astronomical programmes and events of the observatory. The observatory is opened for visitors during working days from 700 to 1530, on Thursday and Friday also in the evening hours, for visits announced in advance every day.
